‘How the media has distorted images’

Nowadays, many medias have used distorted images to attract people who buy the products. However, It causes negative effect like depressing the people. They tend to underestimate themselves comparing with distorted images. Moreover, for many girls, they think they should lose the weight to look good like the women in distorted images.

After reading ‘I am Malala’…

Malala is a girl who was born in a very patriarchal society where rifles are fired in celebration of a son, while daughters are hidden away behind a curtain. It means that the birth of a boy(male) is a happy occasion and has to be celebrated while the birth of a girl(female) is unfortunate and commiserated. Besides, in Pashtun society, the females were considered simply to give birth to children and prepare food.

Her name was named after Malalai of Maiwand, the greatest heroine of Afghanistan by her father who thought there is something different about his daughter compared to other children. Her father wanted his daughter to be an influential woman as Malalai whose bravery encouraged the army and eventually the army won the battle in Pakistan. Moreover, he even put her name on the family tree only the male line can be seen and let his friends throw dried fruits, sweets and coins into his daughter’s candle. We can assume that he broke the tradition that never had to happen to females in Pashtun society. However, his grandfather did not want him giving the name ‘Malala’ to his daughter as he knew that namesake would carry burden and thought that it could make her dangerous in the future.

In conclusion, it is fact that in Pashtun society there is discrimination that females are treated unfairly compared to males. However, Malala’s father tried to break the tradition which is actually discrimination by treating Malala as a boy. It implies that every society around the world should make efforts to be fair and equal in terms of gender without any discrimination or stereotypes like what Malala’s father did.

Reflection about gender

As I am Korean and a high school student, I should study hard everyday for university that I wanna go. Accordingly, I cannot hang out a lot with my friends now to achieve my goal and for my future. Moreover, my mother always forces me to study, never letting me spend time with my friends even on the weekends. In conclusion, I can say that my limitation is I cannot really do what i want, being forced to spend tough life everyday with lots of homework and study.

To be honest, for me, I don’t really have lots of freedom to do at my age. If i should say something one I would like to say that there is no really limitation for the time to hang out with my friends. Firstly, I can get the money from my mom whenever there is something that I have to buy or sometimes want to buy. When I sometimes hang out with my friends, I can get the money that I want as long as I get the permission from my mom and I am allowed to spend for whatever I want. Moreover, there is no limited time when I hang out with my friends. So I can hang out until night if I want.

My family expect me to study hard and pass a good university in Korea at once. Because most of students fail as there are lots of students wanna go to the good universities. And the students who fail usually wait and study for one year to take the exam again.

There are many misconceptions and stereotypes in gender. For instance, many people feel weird if a woman is policeman or a man is nurse. There is even an unspoken rule that the women have to care the children and the men have to earn money for living.

Reflection on my national identity speech

I think the most important element in my personal identity is individuality making you different from other people. It is kinda true that many people nowadays tend to follow the fashion(trend) such as just buying the goods that many people buy or do the things that many people do, not what you want to do. Accordingly, in my opinion, it is really important to show and express your own personality or individuality, not just following others to be you yourself. It is probably the best way to show who really you are.

I’d like to say ceremony is the most important influencer of national in Korea since it has reflected and showed the ancestors’ spirits and rituals. As Korea was primarily an agricultural society until the 20th century, there are lots of ceremonies whose the main purpose for wishing the good harvest and unity of the local community. Therefore, I can say that Korea has own specific ceremonies that can show what Korea is compared to other countries.

It was an amazing time to know what makes the countries different from each other. And I could notice that there were many specific different factors among different countries from my international friends. In addition, I also could notice that even the people in the same country(community) have different ideas of the main national identities.

“What goes into a good speech?”

  1. Keep it short 2. Abandon the formalities. 3. Have purpose. 4. Connect to your audience’s hearts. 5. Speak to larger truths. 6. Speak to the larger audience. 7. Recall more famous lines. 8. End strong.

Who am I?

Hello guys! Thanks for visiting my blog~😆 My real name is Seung Gun Kim, but I use my English name ‘Shawn’ so that it is easier for others to call me, rather than getting confused by the Korean language.. I am from South Korea. As I am a high school student, I have a duty to study hard. Besides, I have to be polite and to show my respect to my friends and teachers. I live in Kemang Village Apartment. I go to the Australian Independent School or AIS in Jakarta,  I am currently living in Indonesia since my father received an official announcement of appointment from his company that he should work in Indonesia for 4 years.

I look like a typical Korean boy.😎 I have small eyes, a kind of big nose, an unequal jaw, lots of pimples, dark eyebrows, lots of hair, long fingers, flexible elbows, bow legs, big feet and a slim body. Physically, my small eyes and lots of pimples on my face make me different from others and mentally I am thoughtful to my friends and always smile to everyone. However, sometimes I am kind of selfish such as in a sporting situation that is important to me.😓

I study 6 subjects at school which are English , Math , Korean, Economics, Business, Physics. I made an earnest effort to choose those subjects so that I can get the best grades. The two hardest subjects that I take are Math and Physics. In those two subjects, it is important to understand lots of difficult things and apply them to different types of questions. However, fortunately, I feel that the other subjects are mediocre. My favourite subject is Physics despite it being hard because I like to solve the challenging questions using practical equations. Although It is not easy to get the answers, I feel satisfied when I can solve the questions. I joined the Futsal and Group Guitar for my CCAs. Any boys in my grade also joined the Futsal, I’m sure I can get close to them by playing futsal.🙏 For Group Guitar, I want to improve my guitar playing skills although I have already played for one year.  I also joined Kampung Kids for my CCAs since honestly, I have never helped poor people before, so I am very glad that there is a chance that I can understand and help the poor people by joining Kampung Kids. My best redeeming quality is playing badminton and soccer.  Because I have played them for many years since I was young. In my experience, when I first came to the International school which is my previous school, I could not speak and read English well. Accordingly, it was quite hard to get a good score for P.E. theory, but my outstanding practical skills in badminton enabled me to get a higher score from the original one for theory. The fear that I’m really concerned about now is whether I will pass the university exams or not. Because for me, It is the most important thing in my life. 😲

I like playing the guitar as I can relieve the stress by playing songs that I like and it makes me calm and comfortable regardless of my tough daily life. In addition, I like playing badminton and soccer since I can develop cooperation as soccer is a team sport, not personal sport and improve my English speaking skills by communicating with my friends in English.👍 On the other hand, I dislike doing my homework from  school because it’s not a lot but it takes time since I must study Math and English for Korean university. Moreover, I also dislike spending much time on Facebook. Facebook is like a very addictive drug for me. Since I can never stop being on Facebook as long as once I log in and it makes myself futile. Accordingly, It is no exaggeration to say that Facebook is a very harmful and fatal obstacle for studying. I value 3 things in my life. Firstly, It is having a job I really like because I firmly believe that it is the most important one which will make my entire life happy and exciting. Besides, I will never get bored with my life. Secondly, It is traveling around the world as I can experience lots of different cultures and be a multicultural person who understands and respects other countries. Finally, It is making lots of money as I can buy whatever I want such as an expensive car or a luxury house.😍

There have been lots of things that have made my identity . Firstly, I can say that it is my family as all of my  family members have encouraged me every time I am in trouble and they also always respect my opinions even though it is a different view from theirs. Secondly, it is my friends. Every time I get bored or think negatively , they have always made me smile and think positively back. 😁

Values Auction

“Today, I had an auction that I bought the values which I want in English class. There were some differences between me and my friends in terms of thinking the values of different things. I selected having a job that I really like as the most valuable thing to me since i will have to spend my entire life doing my job and I will not get bored if i do something that I am interested in and desire. On the other hand, others chose different ones as different people have different values. In addition, boys tended to choose the things relating to appearance or money while girls tended to choose the things relating to health. Besides, I learned lots of things through three lessons about the importance of values. Firstly, I learned that I have to appreciate all the things that i possess now even though some of them are useless and poor. Since they could be useful and important some day. Secondly, I thought that I should study hard to get the things that i want such as getting a job that i really like which is pilot. If I don’t work or study hard and hope to get what i want, i think that’s the stupidest thought ever. To be successful and satisfied with your life doing all the things that you want, you should strive and never give up.”
